It was only when Gen 3 rolled out that it was suddenly uncool to talk about Pokemon. Basically it went underground. I didn't dislike Hoenn but convincing my normie friends to give it a try was impossible. Nobody liked the new anime, or the new Pokemon outside the fan sites.
So now I see some people claim that it was Gen 2 that killed it (citing VGChartz numbers) and I am like WTF
