>>46839708iirc Disney set up Spectrobes to be a Pokémon killer, or at least the reason they axed the series was that its sales weren't anywhere close to Pokémon. Which sounds obvious but that's executives for you.
I'm pretty fond of that series, the action gameplay was nice, the excavation minigames were enjoyable, the awakening by going AAAAAAAAA into your DS' mic was dumb fun. Plot was nothing special but was serviceable enough, after all the fun part was going around a star system excavating cool fossils and feeding them minerals and making them cool monsters to fight back evil goo creatures from outer space.
I have reservations regarding the Spectrobes themselves, they feel more like Digimon in official art (mostly due to artstyle and level of detail) but are closer to Pokémon in design approach. I do cherish a lot of them almost as much as some of my favourite Pokémon, but it's mostly tempered by the franchise being dead and it being somewhat obscure as far as I can tell.
Also legendary Spectrobes are implemented in a pretty good way, you just summon them once in a battle for them to wreak havock, instead of commanding them like any regular Spectrobe.
