Sticking to the original static sprites with an animated entry is the best way to add personality. The single pose is made to give you a solid foundation of what you're up against with the animation being a personality flare.
GF has great pixel artists. They e already proven themselves as being competent. They were going to cut the fucking dex anyway a few gens into 3D so there was no fucking point desu. I enjoy romhacks a lot more than current games, and those stick to sprites.
