The rest of the females actually have some compatibility with Ash unlike Mao and a little bit with Iris. Serena's personality just revolves around her crush, she doesn't have anything else going for her.
Misty hates bugs and has a tsundere personality and likes water pokemon. Iris is the annoying/bossy but active type who likes Dragons. Lillie is a bookworm, loves pokemon and studies them, had to overcome her phobia/fear and admires and gets inspired by Ash's love for Pokemon. Lana likes fishing, water pokemon, the ocean.
Serena is just a blank slate of May and Dawn with a goal thrown at her to become a performer and later randomly copied May and Dawn's goal for contests.
