It's kind of like a microcosm of GameFreak's design philosophy after ORAS, they EASILY could have made a game on the 3DS to top Gen 6 but instead they decided to completely go back on everything the series was working for up until Gen 6, and even after getting even more resources to work with for Gen 8 they still kept the same bland and soulless scope from Gen 7.
