The movie before Zilla had all of the surviving cast from the original movie come back and had Godzilla kill a kaiju born from the weapon that killed the original Godzilla, but the strain literally makes him melt to death. For him to then be brought back as literally a giant iguana who gets killed by two cruise missiles was pretty shitty.
