I also appreciate that while they're not like, explicit about the Lugia movie being canon, the way Ash and Lugia act is ambiguous enough to the point that you could totally interpret it as canon. Like in this, Ash, who *personally* knows Lugia, doesn't go like "Hey how ya doing", he's basically like "HEY I STILL HAVEN'T FOUGHT YOU, WANNA GO?" (That's my brain-battle-poisoned best boy for you.) And Lugia's like, friendly to the point of familiarity.
