French and English have shittons words in common though (because some French Duke invaded England in 1066).
In pretty much every English sentence there is at least one French originated word (in yours there are "language" and "decided").

Their spellings are simply closer from the French origin of the words than American spellings.
American English pretty much tries to "defrenchify" English language.

Couleur => Colour => Color
Honneur => Honour => Honor
Théâtre => Theatre => Theater
Jugement => Judgement => Judgment
Specialité => Speciality => Specialty
Dialogue => Dialogue => Dialog

As a result of this long domination, from one quarter to one-third of English language comes from French (most of the nouns, verbs and adjectives) and the English national motto is in French.

I don't know if its relationship with Kalos will be represented in the game though.

English is Germanic for the structure of sentences, but it's barely Germanic when it comes to vocabulary
As someone who can speak English, German and French, I can assure you that English adjectives/verbs/nouns (aka the words used to make up Pokemon names) most often resemble their French counterpart than their German ones

So nope, most English Pokemon names wouldn't work at all in German
They're just "too French" for us.
