I don't miss this shit at all, nothing felt worse than having another friend with a GBA and Pokemon but not being able to do anything with them because neither of your parents wanted to get you a link cable. Then if one kid did have a link cable you had to scramble to trade as much as you could before class ended or someone had to go home. Shit sucked.
I did have a reputation among my classmates though since I was the only one who knew every single trade method.
