Brown hair Red feels different and not official, the black hair were from the Pokemon Mania / Boom era too.
OG real Red was datamined in the first version, I can't tell if they wanted to use it as easter egg or have planned it but there is also a file witn his outline and a Physical Pikachu like the Light Ball one from Gen2/Gen4. He should be coming, of course I would orefer HGSS or 2pth Anni design over Gen 1 Red.
Don't get me wrong, Sugimori early artstyle is still iconic and charming on its own but it is obvious Pokemon abandoned the original theme of Gen 1 and Gen 2 as rpg and Pokemon world concept, so designs and lore changed accordingly. Party a good thing for the artstyle making it more appealing for the franchise, the artstyle however, some pokemon designs are another thing.
Kris somewhat works with her old design in Masters, an official anniversary artstyle reboot would have been good but Lyra is already. Now imagine of they put this in Masters and how weirdly it would look seeing their artstyle among the modern design characters. Would look like a cruel joke.
I do still play Stadium too anyway, one of the few spinoffs where they actually display and use Sugimori's classic artstyle on the screen and I like his new artstyle used for the Masters homescreen too.
FLRG main fuck up were the MCs, the rest was fine design wise, maybe one can say they miss black dress Lorelei more but she's still fine, LGPE did her justice, Sabrina and Erika are still good and so are the male trainers in both old and new designs. Okay maybe not HGSS Sabrina, totally a new character like Lyra.
