One of Pokemon's best features is its artwork and visual world building, and that personality shines through in the card art and environmental art for every generation, not just Kanto. To me, the exception is the official digital Sugimori art for each Pokemon, which I think has been a bit stiff and lifeless since he started drawing them. I think the transition to digital may have weakened his skill. But other series artists have made incredibly solid work for the past twenty years.
