The youngest sibling of Ecruteak City's Kimono Girls, Abby was fed up with her sisters pushing her to be more lady like and pushing chores on her. This led her to run away to Goldenrod. As night fell over the city, she realized her mistake. While trying to make a call home from a pay phone, she was approached by an older women with an R emblem on her coat. She offered her a meal, and despite the bad vibe Abby got, she went with her. The woman led her to an underground hideout, and revealed herself as a Rocket Executive. Abby was coerced into joining, and was "recruited" by Team Rocket.
She was gifted a Rattata and was sent along with some other grunts to Azalea Town to collect slowpoke tails to sell on the black market. The operation goes south after Gold arrives and busts the Rocket's operation. During their escape, Abby twists her ankle, spraining it. Left to take the fall by her team, she's later found by Gold, who hears her story and ends up helping her. Abby ends up traveling with Gold on his pokemon journey. By traveling with Gold, she hopes to discover her own aspirations. Here's how she obtained some of her team:
>Rattata: Her partner pokemon given to her by Team Rocket.
>Scyther: Caught at the Bug Catching Contest at National Park. She later discovers Gold weakened the Scyther before she encountered it, in an effort to help her catch a strong Pokemon. This causes a fight between them, as Abby doesn't like to be baby'd.
>Nidoran (Female): Gold wanted to catch a Nidoran (Male) for his battle vs Whitney. He does so, but a female Nidoran jumps out to face him. Not wanting to sepearate the pair, Abby catches the female Nidoran for herself.
>Elekid: Hatched from an egg given to her by the day care man. She was embarrassed when given the egg, because the day care lady mistook her and Gold for a couple.
