So what are the DVs/Stat exp of the pokemon in there? I swear everything is so strong even though we have the same levels. I guess my team doesn't exactly have the best DVs (most of them are female for some reason) and i didn't specifically stat exp train them, but everything in the battlle tower is way stronger than regular trainers even though a lot of trainers in this game actually have good DVs: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_NPC%27s_Pok%C3%A9mon%27s_DVs_(Generation_II) which leads me to believe battle tower mons have stat experience but i wasn't able to find that specifically documented anywhere.

I just don't think that's sufficient enough of a jump for a 23 year old series. What you're talking about should have been the case by gen 3/4... Actually, iirc, some post game areas back then did adapt some of these features, which is a testament to how much the series has regressed. Pokemon is due for some serious catching up.
Maybe it's just me because I've been on the battle sims for so long (I think I started in 2003 when battlenet just added sprites) that the current core system just doesn't interest me anymore - at least not as part of a single player game.

Hey so I made a thread here a few days ago about my plan to challenge the Battle Tower in Pokemon Crystal (the level 10 bracket), asking for advice on my team. I'm happy to say that it was a success, and out of 10 attempts, I've had 9 successes. Here was the initial team I began with:

-Fire Blast
-Toxic

Arcanine@Mint Berry
-Dragon Rage

-Sleep Talk
-Rest

Lapras@Gold Berry
-Dragon Rage
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt

I won the first three attempts, but Jolteon was a major hassle and wiped us on our fourth try. So I came back, replacing Arcanine with:

Steelix@Mint Berry
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Curse
-Rest

This basically solved my problem and I cheesed through the whole thing. The biggest threats currently are Aerodactyl and Lapras, but I can handle both of them reliably. So if you want a team to cheese the Lv10 bracket of the Crystal Tower, this is the way to go. Also if you're doing any battle tower/frontier/maison stuff, feel free to share your team and what you're challenging.
