I got my manager demoted and transferred because she fucked me over. We were pretty close and she had promoted me a few times, but I always made it clear that school was my main priority. We had an agreement that I would use vacation time to only work part-time ahead of finals week each semester. Second semester junior year she scheduled me for 5 full shifts so that she could take the week off. Not to go on vacation, but because she wanted to spend more time with her unemployed husband.
Thought about quitting but I didn't want to burn any bridges. I was well liked and respected by most of my coworkers and had a good relationship with the DM. I showed for all my shifts, but all week long I gradually turned people against her. I started a rumor she planned on clearing house, so it didn't take long to have a majority of the staff against her. When the DM stopped by for a weekly check in me and other employees asked to have a staff meeting without our manager. She ended up catching wind of the meeting, and asked me to speak in favor of her during the meeting because she was concerned about her job. At the meeting we all aired our grievances, most exaggerated or fake for fear of losing their jobs. She was demoted and transferred to another store within a week. A month later she was fired. They brought in a new manager and I was promoted to assistant manager (a position the previous manager had refused to fill). I barely passed one of my classes, but thankfully didn't have to retake it.
To this day she doesn't realize I played a part in all that. She thinks I spoke up for her at the meeting and that we "drifted apart" because we didn't work together anymore. She still hits me up occasionally and it's been 8 years. She's even used me as a professional reference. Fuck you Holly
