Bug Types have some of the coolest art and concepts. But they're literally unusable even in the main game unless you overlevel the shit out of them. Even then their stats and viability are just bad. In the rare instance where you fight a dark type, psychic, or a grass type which doesn't have poison as a secondary type, you MIGHT be able to swing for big damage. But more often then not you'll be swinging for half damage against most opponents. Bug type is as advertised, because it makes you feel like a worthless bug just moments away from getting squashed.
And could probably be redeemed somehow if they decided that bugs could eat through steel, or actually fuck over one of the other types giving it at least one more offensively viable strat rather than getting bodied by literally everything. You'd be better off catching a LITERAL route-1 shitmon like the regional rat or bird than investing any significant time into training up most of the bug roster outside of their top-tiers like Volcarona. And I find the bug types that do manage to do ok are good IN-SPITE of their bug typing, and not because of it. All those weaknesses for the honor of hitting darks, grass and psychic for double damage. A feeble prize for a feeble type. But hey at least you can slap Shiftry for quadruple damage, so congrats on that I guess.
