I don't understand why everyone is so convinced about a single possibility being correct. A Sylveon counterpart has equally good chances of happening or not happening.
On one hand, sure there are patterns. A Dragon (or even Poison) eeveelution would continue the "tradition" of counterparts in every other gen. It also would give the player a cool new option if they decided they didn't like Sylveon.
But Gamefreak breaks traditions on occasion too. There could be only Sylveon - and if the player doesn't like it, there are still 7 other eeveelutions to choose from.
There is also the issue of Gamefreak not revealing a counterpart along with Sylveon. Maybe they didn't reveal it because hell, there ISN'T one. But on the contrary, they could have simply wanted to focus on showcasing the new Fairy type and shoved the other eeveelution into the background. Who knows, really?
Personally I'd welcome a counterpart, as a Dragon eeveelution sounds interesting to me. But seriously, it could go either way here.
