When they transitioned to 3D, everyone was excited because it was said GF would just use XY as a launching platform for the next games. 3D assets could be reused unlike sprites. The content available on XY was the bare minimum everyone expected. Gen 6 was supposed to be Gen 5 but with more stuff. Gen 7 was supposed to be Gen 6 but with more stuff. And so on. Instead, we get a version with fewer features and content every gen.
