So how do we read this: official acknowledgement that current legendaries are so terribly uninteresting that OLM can't pitch movies about them, or that the film franchise is on life support? That latter contributes to the former in any case.
I'm not even sure if OLM could do right by Mewtwo Strikes back if they were deliberately trying. Its so far removed from how the movie series went on to work.
