Older cards weren't afraid to use weird angles that kinda muddied what the Pokemon was even supposed to be. There are many cards where you can't tell what the full Pokemon looks like because of a crazy angle or shot, and some of them didn't show the entire Pokemon. As a kid there were more than a few cards that confused me. I've included some examples, but the Sceptile in my pic is also a good example. Starting around Gen 5, I think the TPCI mandated all artists to include very clear body language, silhouettes, and angles, so that you can always make out what the whole Pokemon looks like from a single card.
