Taking my time so far. - 18 hours in having just acquired surf. Mainly because of nostalgia, it's around a 6 or 7 for modern Pokemon standards.

Biggest flaws:
>battles are far too slow due to sluggish amie text boxes and attack animations
>battling all trainers will lead to you being overleveled in the mid-game.
>avoiding trainers can lock out post game (faithful Drifloon oversight is unforgivable)

Most appealing aspects:
>straightforward, mostly uninterrupted experience
>QoL and UI updates
>very pretty battle backgrounds and trainer models

There's more good and bad shit, but that's basically the quick run down. It was worth it to me because I've replayed Platinum enough times and haven't played a new Pokemon game since ORAS (I find BDSP to be a more pleasant, easily consumable experience).

i agree that BDSP is already superior to DPPt on a baseline level, game mechanics-wise. things like player customization and revamped underground were a real pleasant surprise, so now i'm not so pessimistic as i was before about these games. i'm expecting anything and it's a nice feeling. honestly, it all comes down to the execution of post game content at this point. if the game comes out to be really tight, i won't really mind certain things like being capped to 493.

Dumbing down or elimination of core-game mechanics like abilities, catching, etc.

While it hasn't been confirmed, the fact that no gen 5+ Pokemon have been shown is worrisome. Their exclusion wouldn't fully dissuade me, but it would definitely be incredibly disappointing.

However, it's looking nice so far. The larger regional-dex than Platinum, enhanced underground, new outfits, following Pokemon, etc. are all very interesting to me, so I'm excited to see what else is in. I haven't bought a Pokemon game since ORAS, but I think I'll actually buy this - I've grown bored of replaying Platinum and its hacks.
