Hey, /heg/. I’ve decided to work on an Essentials game as one of my projects for 2017 and I was wondering which idea you think sounded the most interesting. The ideas I have are:
*A game where you play as a young Sammy Oak, meeting all sorts of characters who come together with you to help form Kanto’s first Pokémon League. It’d be in Kanto but with changes to the routes and available Pokémon, new areas, and familiar faces like Samson and, for example, Mr. Goodshow and Raoul Contesta from the anime in their younger days. Naturally, Agatha would be the rival and Giovanni’s mother would be the baddie.
*A game where you traverse the Orange Islands, competing in the Orange League.
*A game set in a region based around the UK, with the Pokémon League Challenge taking the player the length and breadth of the isles. I have toyed with doing this as a Fakemon game as, even though I’m apprehensive at using those, I’d like a bit more freedom to do a UK region justice and some of the “real” Pokémon that match up to the UK’s wildlife don’t quite fit thematically.
*A game full of the sorts of puzzles you get in Pokémon Gyms. Basically, the people of the region would be obsessed with puzzles. Thought this could be a neat idea but not sure where the Pokémon collecting/battling aspect comes into it, other than obvious stuff like showing Trainers a Pokémon that answers a riddle.
*A game where you inherit an island resort brimming with Pokémon. The resort, as a tourist attraction at least, is basically dead on its backside, but the more Pokémon you capture, the more you drum up interest in the island, and the more facilities open up.
Thoughts, questions, righteous hatred? Whatever seems most well received is what I’ll probably end up developing. If you spot any major problems with the concepts then obviously feel free to tell me so I can either address the problem or cull the idea!
