Also, as a first timer who isn't really sure, what's the generally accepted stance on gift pokemon, specifically optional ones? I know after Driftveil I can pick up a free Deerling, but do people consider that as no longer being allowed to catch a mon on the route, or if I caught something already, can I not use that deerling?
