I barely wait when I reach the Pokemon spawn. I just stand still for a few minutes, sometimes only 30 seconds. Then I catch the Pokemon as always, and again, nothing ever happened from that.
Alternatively, catch some nearby shitmons to see when it's safe to catch your target Pokemon. If you catch it, or it breaks out without fleeing, you're good to go.
There is NOTHING to be afraid if you're just spoofing.
