Pokemon will come to an end with the introduction of the final 999th. A 1000th Pokemon is rumoured to be in the games but it doesn't exist.
Future titles after the 999th Pokemon do contain new regions and new characters but only a rough selection of 200 Pokemon from the available Global Pokedex.
Technically there are 'new' Pokemon; Mega Evolutions and Bonding (Fusions) are still a thing.
