With a name that's quick to pronounce it makes giving commands that much faster during any sort of battle since (generally) you preface the commands with their name. That, and I feel like my closest companion is deserving of a proper name, rather than their species name or a name I'd give a dog, like Fluffy or something equally cheesy

Yeah, I could see having no arms being annoying, especially if you were used to having them!
