>>38285845I think they were always kinda popular, it's just that they happen to be especially terrible in battle outside of certain situations. And to be honest, having a legendary trio that's not overwhelming and obnoxiously in your face is kinda refreshing. They're like the underdogs of the legendaries and I think it helps endear them to people since it's easier to like something that's really unique and interesting but isn't obnoxious powerful than it is, say, the genies of the balanced meta.
Plus, they needed to be obtained by embarking through multiple optional areas, training up a Wailord and catching a Relincath (which are really rare), and then tracking down a cave, decoding their messages, and then traveling across the map to their tombs to solve the puzzles left behind to unlock them.
And THEN you carted them all over to Sinnoh to bring infront of an ancient statue to reawaken Regigigas. I don't think there's any other legendary trio that's had such an engaging sidequest, and it's really damn cool. I wish they had more stuff like this nowdays desu, I miss those puzzles.
But at the very least I've managed to find a set that actually works in OU and BSS with Regice that isn't the meme-polish one. And I'm having a lot of fun with it.
