>>33585840I don't know about Overwatch, but Valve has been abusing Chests into their games, such as Team Fortress, DotA 2 and CS:GO: they're essentially items that can be purchased directly (or indirectly, example: a reward from or bonus that comes along something else that you bought) from their shop, and from those boxes come cosmetic items that customize the characters you use. And that's it.
Now, some of those items can be one-of-a-kind that won't be distributed ever again, and even if they look like utter crap they're still regarded as "rare" thus they sell well. The ones that look really good and been years since their inception, with no second chances to get them, can be REALLY expensive.
To give you an idea, go to the Steam Market page and search for Platinum Roshan; if you think that's bad, then hold your scream, for it gets worse:
