>>48703963I actually have a stronger opinion of Team Flare now, after playing through the game again and exploring the Region a bit more. There are numerous references to poverty and class struggle sprinkled throughout the game. The Battle Chateau is full of elitists who look down on you for being low class. Lumiose City is highly expensive, and gates the player out of features until they have the right "style". Then of course there is Emma's story in the post-game, a child of poverty rejected by the world around her. Kalos is this ultra wealthy tourtist trap, where money is everything. He wanted to change that when he was young (working with Sycamore as a colleague), but eventually became the very elitist that he set out to destroy. Even going as far as to charge $5mil to join his special club.
It's pretty clear that someone wanted to tell a story about wealth and corruption with this game. It's sort of like Black City from Gen 5, except that a good chunk of the Region is characterized in this way.
