>>51077407Veteran trainer stumbles upon a wild mutation of Ditto capable of perfectly replicating a target while exploring some ruins. DNA, mannerisms, memories and personality–but they can't ever change back. He spends the evening getting along with his perfect replica, but comes to the conclusion he HAS kill it–he killed and buried an ex in his youth and he's certain the other one knows (or he has some otherwise dark secret)—and secret must never come to light. Naturally, his clone comes to the same conclusion.
Cue mirror match between two expert trainers through the wilderness. His devoted Pokemon team is divided, torn between which master to follow and which to kill—and he himself is pained by having to manipulate and put them down, all while his rival tries the same. His experience works against him, and rethinking and constantly second-guessing his decisions threatens to drive him crazy as he prepares traps and ambushes, while predicting what his copy is doing. Is he waiting for him to make a move—did he go home while he's sitting around, to steal his entire life from him—or maybe he wants him to think that and lure him out in the open–or maybe he knew he'd think that, and he wants him to stay still—etc etc.
One of them narrowly wins, and the obvious twist is he himself doesn't know if he's the Ditto or the trainer. Or maybe he didn't win...and his copy is out there in the wilderness, horribly injured but plotting revenge...gasp! Never been done before, I know.
