Most of the time if I'm at my gym being attacked I'll quickly warn the player by golden razzing everything after first hit, usually a solo player will stop. If they continue I'll wait until all are about to all faint and gold razz all.
The 'hitting first mon over and over' strat is excellent honestly. Been doing it more lately. If someone is defending gym currently it forces their decision to gold razz to come more quickly, making it easier to gauge if it's a waste of time or not.
