All pokemon games are linear you fucking donuts, the only difference here is that it is literally a straight line as opposed to the usual hop around the region that other games use to delude you into thinking you have a choice on where to go. The only time pokemon hasn't been linear is the split after Ecruteak City and all that managed to do was make the other path seem underleveled when you got to it and fuck over your levels for the rest of the game.
