I've rolled with Charizard since Day 1, and as others have said his merchandising blitz is recent and intense. It's definitely a case of GameFreak playing to the fans, but I don't mind it. Mewtwo is one of the other iconic Genwuns in both game and anime lore, so he gets thrown around a lot, too.
I prefer Mew, but Mewtwo is still a pretty cool guyI'm interested to see what becomes of Greninja moving forward. He's an odd case: seemingly designed for weaponised popularity like Lucario, but he started to catch on before Nintendo started to really play him up in Smash and media. Don't know how it will hold or develop, but Smash influence is powerful.
