Keep in mind that GF does keep a lot of other cool subtle shit as canon. Absol's Pokedex entries state that it always appears before a disaster, so the disasters get blamed on Absol. Then compare the places Absol can be found in the games with what happens in those locations story-wise.
Now look at all the fucking places Ditto can be found that have absolutely nothing to do with Mew or Mewtwo.
