I consider my mom a normie when it came to pokemon. I can't explain too much of the more in depth stuff related to the anime or video games. But she is familiar with indigo through johto. She is aware of Ash, Misty, Brock, Pikachu, Togepi, the gyms and their badge system, the names of various other pokemon of at least gen 2 and a few she mistakes as gen like Latias. She is not as familiar with later series and tends to be surprised there is still cards or the tv series or video games still getting made. Also while she isn't that big into shipping, she did think Misty and Ash seemed like a cute couple.
