Grew up in eastern Canada right on the coast, so a bunch of forest Pokemon like Zigzagoon, Deerling, Pachirisu, and a bunch of bug types and city Pokemon like Wingull, Murkrow and the occasional water types in the Atlantic would roam free
As for country's championship, doubt my parents would have let me at the age of 10, but I would have competed locally. Would totally have left to travel the world at age 18 though
