>>55174342>Just shows how poorly supported stage 2s are, and how overtuned charizard is in comparison.Exactly. Pretty much every other stage two has some major drawback that either makes in unplayable (some never do enough damage like Golem) or much more difficult to use.
Tyranitar is a great example, and there's also Tera Tsareena and Tera Garchomp. These cards can't even attack properly on their own without at least one support to fix the damage. The only stage 2 that can act on its own somewhat is Magnezone ex, but its consistent damage output is capped at 230 (vitality band) and it does 30 damage to itself. You can occasionally OHKO if you opponent attaches too many energy, but that doesn't happen much in the current format.
Blastoise ex also doesn't seem to be too bad, but since Miraidon rapes it and it suddenly becomes very inefficent against any deck running Pokemon with more than 280 HP, it's not very viable either.
It's like the game designers are allergic to making hard-hitting stage 2's that don't have some sort of stupid drawback. We should be shifting to more of an evolution-based meta but since they keep printing big basics that fully set up in 2 turns we're going to be stuck where we are. It's only going to get even worse with next year's sets.
