Just because every mainline game that came after you was even worse, it doesn't mean you got any better. All it means is that you set a low standard for the series and they have since failed to meet even that.
We could have kept the DexNav, the National Dex, Triples/Rotation/Inverse battles, online secret bases, berry hybrid mechanics, and so many other features. But instead, in addition to losing all of those things, we can't even get a sub-par Pokemon game out of it.
At the very least, BDSP seems to be a return to form and Legends looks like a bright turn in the right direction. Maybe if Gen 7 and 8 weren't total downgrades you would be looked at fondly, but without that you will forever be viewed as a mediocre example that stood as an omen to the downfall of the series. I'm not sorry.
