Sure, there are some Fairy-type Pokemon that don't really match that description, but most Fairy types actually are rooted in mythos (imps, ogres, unicorns, moon rabbits, witches, tricksters, divine creatures, literal fairies or fairy-like creatures, guardian deities, etc.), or are at least puns/references that link them to a certain fairy-like terminology such as "fairy floss" or "fairy cakes", pic related.
To denounce them all as "pink and cute with arbitrarily slapped on type" is wrong.
