Gen 5 has the worst and most imature fanbase ever that can't respect other peoples opinons for not liking this gen for their own valid reasons, like pokemon design, the regions aesthetics, music, etc and thinks they are just genwunners and that is their fault for GF becoming lazy even if the bought the gen 5 games and played them.
As for someone that has every mainline game like myself, I think the pokemon design are very bland, boring and hard to get attached to them. The story itself can get a little melodramatic and burrow a lot in it's own sadness at times where it feels you are not playing a pokemon game especially when the pokemon designs don't do it for you. Gameplay itself is fine. Not against pokemon having a bigger story, but this was their fist attempt for a different story than normal so I know it wouldn't be perfect. It shows what they can improve on.
Just because people don't like it and point out what they don't like doesn't mean they want pokemon to regress as a series. What they like about pokemon may be different from you, but that doesn't mean their opinions are less valid than your own
