desu I think it all goes back to their obsession with gen 1. Gen 1 was the most successful and you hear them talk a lot about wanting to get back those players who quit after 1, and I think all they can think of to do that is trying to make the new games as similar to it as they can. So they still design environments basically like they're making a gameboy game, they're scared that if they make it too much like a modern game normies who only played gen 1 as kids won't give it a chance.

realistically I think if they went full pokemon of the wild that would do more to reignite pokemania than anything else they could do but clearly they don't believe that.
