>>47397395no, its because it was the first pokemon game on the switch, compared to sun/moon being the 3rd on the 3ds, a system which could also play the entire ds catalog of pokemon games.
>>47397415not that anon, but I'll go through some examples of truly desirable improvements and not fads
Gen 2
>breeding>shinies>day/night cycle>time based events>roaming legendaries>special stat split>battle tower>weather>trainer rematchesGen 3 is when we had hints of things being lost, such as the day/night cycle and not being able to transfer up pokemon, but overall improved the series, such as
>double battles>battle frontier>berry farming>abilities>gym leader and e4 rematches with new teamsGen 4, again like gen 3, fucked up by abandoning some mechanics (and having a sub-par dex as well) but still innovated and contributed to the series
>physical/special split>hazards (stealth rock, spikes, etc.)>returned day/night cycle>more convenient gym leader rematchesGen 5 is where they completely give up on making major innovations or additions (even abandoning some classic ones), and instead focus on improving the basic formula. Battle frontier never comes back, neither do gym leader rematches, and berry farming is done through the "global link," just to name a few. Even the few new mechanics they add, like
>pokemon world tournament>seasons>eternalinkdon't return in future entries.
Gen 6 does what gen 5 does, but worse. Also squanders an opportunity to bring back the battle frontier. Coolest features are
>mega evolution>flying through the overworld on latios/latiasand neither of them lasted through the generation.
I'm sure you get the drill by now. There are very few new meaningful additions in the newer generations. Sure, there are improvements to online, and some of the older mechanics are refined, but most of them are left in the dust or abandoned all together. The pattern repeats itself with totems and z moves in gen 7, and will with dynamax for 8.
