Pokemon really is an oddity when it comes to Nintendo franchises. Nintendo loves to shit on second parties and meddle with them until their games are shit but has surprisingly kept it's hand off Pokemon and just handled the marketing.
But they are most certainly the ones pushing GF to make Pokemon a yearly franchise, so this scenario will come into normality soon enough.
