Ok so basically you'd do dunegons to find clearings in varying locations and build things there, there would be a friend area system, basically if you don't own a settlement and miscellaneous accommodations in a volcano mons like slugma can't join, Pokémon not on an expedition would be assigned a task such as gathering common materials like wood, clearing out more of an area for a soon to be settlement, build in a soon to be settlement, shopkeep, and a few other things, only some Pokémon can participate in some tasks, a Torkoal can't build or gather but it can clear a patch of trees, a Goldeen can't work on land but could clear areas in water zones, the game would have quest chains that would result in special shopkeepers (and their specific shop) being unlocked to carry out tasks of their own (anyone can bank, link, sell items etc but not everyone could so something such as craft orbs on demand), there would be some form of final boss but it wouldn't lock a terribly large amount of content, this would allow for a large variety of mons to be useful and even shitmons would have niches in town, the specifics aren't all written yet but I would want this game to be a proper grindfest
