There are multiple timelines within the mainline series anyway. There has never been a clearly-defined line between mainline games and spinoff games ever since Pokemon Stadium on the N64. Even some games that are clearly spinoffs like Pokemon Channel and Pokemon Ranger had Pokemon that were transferrable to the mainline games.
