FireRed or LeafGreen with a modded GBA from Ebay with a backlight.
HeartGold or SoulSilver with a new 2DS XL and select button DS mode.
Black or White with a new 2DS XL and select button DS mode.
Black 2 or White 2 with a new 2DS XL and select button DS mode (choose the same color. i.e. if you choose Black, get Black 2).
X or Y on an original 3DS.
ORAS on an original 3DS.
Sun or Moon on a new 2DS XL.
BDSP on Switch.
USUM on a new DS XL (choose the opposite. i.e. if you choose Sun, play Ultra Moon).
Let’s go on Switch.
Sword and Shield on Switch.
PLA on Switch.
This roughly follows the progression of graphics, so you won’t be disappointed as you play. BDSP is the exception since I think you need that prior to USUM to appreciate the USUM post game.
