>>48141610Gen 8 finally gets announced with Sword and Shield. The board doesn't really like it, but there are at least memes around the release like Norfposting, since the region is based in Britain. An uneasy "hype" season ensues, until E3 2019.
Comments from Masuda during a Treehouse segment afterwards reveal that Sword and Shield won't have all the Pokemon programmed into the game, and that most will be unavailable, even via transfer. This kills whatever hype Sword and Shield had on /vp/ dead, and becomes what is later known as Dexit, the most controversial move in Pokemon history. And to make matters worse for /vp/, yawnfag returns and defends it and SwSh at full force, soon invading and derailing nearly every thread discussing it. The board never recovers from this, and SwSh releases to the general mockery and derision of /vp/. Most people leave /vp/ at this point, having no love for Gen 8 and unwilling to deal with people like yawnfag. /vp/ is dying.
Now come to 2021, and DP remakes are announced, as well as an open world Pokemon game. Both look terrible, and /vp/, of course, mocks it. There is no hype season for these games, and they fail to revitalize the board. The board's still dying.
Things get even worse, as a discord group begins raiding the board, and they follow in yawnfag's footsteps, copying his M.O. by defending the latest games, shitting on all the games /vp/ likes, calling Pokemon as a whole shit and derailing any thread they can get their hands on. This makes even more people leave.
So now we come to the current state of the board, where the most active threads are mobile game generals, most generals for playing the mainline games are dead, and the board is constantly raided and spammed with genwar threads and baitposts from a discord brigading group. Discussing mainline Pokemon in any way is now impossible.
This franchise is spiritually dead and this board has followed in its footsteps.
