Somehow he got out of Ultra Space, becoming a Faller and losing his memory, and ended up on the Pelago. Lusamine, distraught at the loss of her husband and the stress of having to take over his company, continues his research as a way to find him again. When it doesn't provide results she starts getting obsessed. This is when Gladion, feeling ignored and unwanted, runs away with Null, stealing one of her expensive, near irreplaceable research projects. She becomes even more distraught, now her husband AND her son have abandoned her. She gives up on them, starts being harder on Lillie, and increases research into the Ultra Beasts, starting to see them as beautiful, misunderstood creatures instead of horrid, world-ending monsters that need to be kept across the veil. She abuses Cosmog to this end
still not sure where they got it in the first place which causes Lillie to sympathize with it's plight and then also run away. Once Lillie runs away, Lusamine has reached full on crazy tier, as she believes her family has abandoned her and does not care for them anymore, fully devoting herself to her 'collection' and the Ultra Beasts she loves so dearly.
tl;dr Mohn is the cause of all the story problems in SM
