At that time it was huge. The PSP was better at the time from a power perspective but the PSP wasn't as consistent a machine performance-wise. Loadtimes were bad, and the discs were temperamental. Most of the games failed to take advantage of the PSP's power too, while the DS had a much more consistent quality to it. It was hardly underpowered or dated at the time it was a huge step forward.
