Really though, to make Kanto truly "next gen" would virtually be to build a completely new world having virtually nothing in common with the Kanto of our memories aside from having town names and route numbers in common, and at that point it might as well be a new region.
On the subject of "monkey's paw" wishes, Mario + Rabbids was it for me, I dreamed for ages of a Mario/Rayman crossover, and they came as close as they ever in a million years could have come to making a Mario/Rayman crossover without actually doing so, by having Mario cross over with the god damn Rabbids, the obnoxious creatures that totally hijacked and derailed the Rayman franchise for a decade, and are the reason we never got a 3d Rayman 4.
