>>49075216Who knows how cannon dex entries are, but megas having horrible negative side effects was explored in other gen 6 media. Just not the mainline games for whatever reason. In super Mystery Dungeon, they turn on friendly fire. In the anime, Korrina has an arc about her lucario going berserk since she can't control the mega right off the bat. In my opinion, megas were originally intended to have noticeable drawbacks. Like you'd need a strong bond or intense training to actually use them in spite of the consequences. XY and oras might've dropped that though in favor of keeping things more lighthearted/ low effort on the players part. Like compare kids getting the instant use handout megas they get in the story to actually having to get high friendship/ affection with specific pokemon or something.
